Abstract

This study aims to problematize the relationship between history and literature in the construction and content of the historical novel entitled The Mystic Kingdom of Pine Trees, by Wilson Gasino, published in 2011 by the publisher Scortecci, from São Paulo. We seek to understand the specificity of this source and its relevance to the resignification of the Contestado conflict in contemporary times. The critical work of official productions and the contemporary debates around the marginalized of history make Gasino's novel a tool of denunciation against those who built and compromised with prejudiced interpretations of history, versions that set aside and stigmatized thousands of sertanejos who even today they fight for their land, for their citizenship, for their human rights.
