This article analizes the question of Spanish American independence in the work of José Martí and its impact on the struggle to unite people, especially to integrate the Cubans at the end of the nineteenth century, the ideology of a united continental action. Although Marti has not devoted a special written to the systematic analysis of the issue of independence struggles, the theme is present in several of his texts. The Cuban leader Martí made the scene of the struggle for liberty of his country with the process of emancipation of the continent and stands by itself having a stated willingness to understand the battle against spanish colonialism in Cuba as the epic continuation triggered since the beginning of century, as already pointed major personalities as Simon Bolivar and Jose de San Martin. The Martiniano criterion is based on two key perspectives: the independence processes that produced with common practices and promoting continental unity and, once, were driven by the prominence of the popular classes. Both factors - unity of latin american people and decisive presence of the popular sectors - were essential before the danger that affronted the sovereignty of these republics that represented the birth of the North American imperialism.Downloads
