Abstract

This work has as main objective to contribute to correct the biased image of Haiti offered, among others, by the mass media that only qualify the country as the poorest one in continent. Condition that results from the former colonial status when it was under French possession. For this reason, it is necessary to show the origins and history of the Haitian Revolution (1791 -1804) creator of the first free nation of free men established in the Americas and indicate the events that are essential to understanding the current situation in that country. Accordingly, here are the lines of force councilors of the historical evolution of the Great Caribbean, which had its best expression in Saint Domingue (Haiti); it reveals the role played by this revolution as the initiator of the decolonization process in Latin America and the Caribbean and displays some of the many repercussions of this historic event by its social nature. It also explains the various dimensions of its many implications and content of its many lessons, some of which are still valid.
