Abstract

This article intends to reflect on everyday aspects and material culture in the city of Campina Grande, in Paraiba State from 1930 to 1950, considering the effects of the modernization process that was a result of the success from cotton market, recorded by the optimistic texts of the local press and pictures. In order to approach these events, we still turned to the records left by some local memoirists that telling their experiences associate them on a large scale to the reached economic progress. Therefore, we tried to survey the urban consumption habits considering the permanence and the changes influenced by economic and mental transformation.
