Abstract

This article´s aim is to discuss the development project for the Northeast region elaborated by Celso Furtado, in the end of the 50´s, having as a reference the historical moment of intense social contradictions which lead to the coup d’état of 64. Besides the project, it is discussed, also, the political conceptions that guided the proposals of capitalistic reforms of Sudene.
