Abstract

The article analyzes the pictures of cities included in the volume Straßen in Berlin und anderswo, by Siegfried Kracauer, with the purpose of tracing the models of urban structure and life present in the essays, of establish the contributions of the German thinker to an ethnography of the great city, and of investigate the possibilities that, in the essays, are located, within the urban spaces, for the improvisation and for social transformation.
