Teaching strategy is particularly challenging because it involves developing the abilityto think strategically. At the heart of strategic thinking is creativity. Yet, many textbooks onstrategy present it as a procedural process involving a number of steps. This paper proposes thatinstructors can rely on using cognitive metaphors to help stimulate thinking and questioningabout strategizing. Specifically, we propose that sports can be used as cognitive metaphors tohelp students think deeper about competitive issues faced by businesses. We propose someguidelines on the metaphorical use of sports in teaching strategyCognitive metaphor, strategy, creativityDownloads
