Becoming, rhizome and transversality in Cyberpunk 2077

Abstract

In September 2020, the game Cyberpunk 2077 was released, which presents a future in which it is no longer possible to disconnect the mind from cyberspace, memories are stored in chips and the search for better quality parts, software and antivirus provide a safe and secure life semi-eternal. In this sense, the aim of this article is to make a Deleuzian reading of the narrative structure of Cyberpunk 2077, starting from the hypothesis that the game grounds the protagonist V in situations that clarify questions raised by Deleuze in works such as Difference and Repetition, A Thousand Plateaus and in interviews such as Control and Becoming. From the Deleuzian point of view, Cyberpunk 2077 problematizes potential mechanisms of agency of the society of control and a critique of an eventual disposal of the body by technocapitalism in 2077 based on concepts such as becoming, rhizome, a-parallel communication.
