This article examines the first settlers of the Santo Amaro/SP neighborhood. We present documents of the “entryway” Martim Rodrigues Tenório, his economic and social activities, characteristics of a region peripheral to the colonial economy. Under these conditions, the “entry” to the backcountry where the mineral wealth and the reserve of indigenous labor are found is an option. The Inquisition observes and acts.
