The Luso-Brazilian Colonial Metalist Imaginary: The Serra das Esmeraldas during the second half of 17th century. The Serra das Esmeraldas is a legendary Hill, usualy localized on Espirito Santo Capitaincy’s hinterland during the colonial period of Brazil. During several years, a diversity of adventures and bandeirantes left to the wilderness in search of something waiting for them somewhere unknown. Sérgio Buarque de Holanda stands up to the idea that de Hill was part of a group of myths kept and brought by the Portuguese from Europe to America, acting like an ideal scenario formulated from their experiences and mythologies. The hill’s endurance in the colonial imaginary makes us pay more attention on Espirito Santo’s documents, even though this fantastic place is not present only in the imaginary of the capixaba’s settlers, but in all of Brazil.Downloads
