The dilemmas of street performers. A comparison between the experimental theater and the performer who begs

This paper discusses the similarities and different points between theatrical performances, presented in the urban public space, and the approach of beggars and street vendors. The objects of our study are the play “Cordel do amor sem fim” (Cordel of the never ending love) and the performance of a beggar who asks for money to buy medicine. Both are presented inside public transportation running along metropolitan streets. What do they have in common? What does make them differ? With this approach, we will discuss two important aspects in the comparison: the theatrics involved and its social-political element.Downloads
