Abstract

This article analyzes the connections between history and memory in post-modern literature through a reading of the book O Retrato do Rei, a novel by Ana Miranda, which follows a trend of post-modernity taking material from History for the fictional development. In this way, this paper also discusses the transience established between literature and history, emphasizing memory as a guiding element of social aspects, whether historical or literary. Finally, some matters will be presented about the process of consolidation of cultural identity, which is directly connected to the development of literature and history in society.
