How to read images? The Roland Barthes’s lesson
Keywords:
image, studium, myth, punctum, photography, Roland BarthesAbstract
This paper aims to bring together the concept of myth as Roland Barthes has de ned it in his work Mythologies; as well as the notion of studium established in another of his books, The camera lucida, since this Barthesian notion beckons with the possibility to be understood as a sort of rehandling of this concept of myth to the eld of photography. We work with the hypothesis that these Barthes’s operators can still be useful in the analysis of images in the contemporary studies of visuality.
