The body in media messages involving sports — In this article, we intend to establish possible approximations between the neo-Baroque and the present time based on Calabrese’s studies. Broaching two of the characteristics pointed out by the aforementioned author — excess and complexity — we analyze the body images that are present in mediatic messages involving sports. We consider that the idea of the athlete’s body surpassing its physical limits and the notion of ethnic and cultural diversity that constitute such images allude to the imaginary of the post-organic body. The athlete’s body thus personifies the aspirations of society.Metrics
