Resumen

El estreno en cines de Christopher Nolan Oppenheimer fue el 21 de julio de 2023. Ha recibido críticas estelares. En octubre de 2023, la película aún no se ha estrenado en Japón, pero los críticos japoneses se apresuraron a señalar que la película no trata sobre la muerte y la destrucción en Hiroshima y Nagasaki. Los más de 200.000 muertos y los supervivientes están en gran medida ausentes de la película. Finalmente, si bien la película no es una celebración del hombre apodado el “padre de lo atómico”, lo presenta como un personaje comprensivo. Este tratamiento es objetable. La película de Nolan no trata sobre la decisión de lanzar dos armas nucleares sobre Japón. No es un documental. Sin embargo, el científico Oppenheimer nunca podrá separarse de las armas atómicas y de la matanza de civiles. Que fue torturado por el resultado de su trabajo es cierto, pero él era consciente de lo que hacía. Un tema subyacente de este ensayo son los peligros de la arrogancia. Este ensayo intenta demostrar cómo tanto la memoria de Hiroshima como la de Oppenheimer están vinculadas como íconos controvertidos. Nolan hizo esta película en una América hiperpolarizada. Las funciones didácticas tendrían que resonar en su audiencia. Oppenheimer, un brillante erudito intelectual judío de izquierda de Nueva York, fue humillado y expulsado de la vida pública en una era histérica de política de derecha anticomunista. Paul Scott is professor at the Catholic University of Lille. After more than thirty years teaching in Japan, Paul D. Scott, currently lives in Paris. He serves as a translator/interpreter for Hiroshima atomic bomb survivors and is part of a UNESCO project to record these stories. His most recent book is: Peace Democracy Development, co-authored with Dr. Johan Galtung.
