This article aims at investigating the use of oral genres in the books used in the Reading and Writing Program produced by the Sao Paulo State Department of Education. To investigate and discuss this material, the theoretical backgrounds are related to the theoretical assumptions which refer to discursive genres based upon Bakhtin (2003); genres and orality, Marcuschi (2001); and studies based on oral and written genres in school, Dolz' and Schneuwly' (2004). In order to achieve the objective of this investigation, an analysis over the seven books of the Reading and Writing Program (Guide of Planning and Didactical instructions for teachers, and the Collection of Activities for the Students) has been made.
