Abstract

The investigated language graduate program aims at preparing students to work as teachers; the objective of this research was to investigate the evaluation practice especially related to formative evaluation (FE). FE is understood, according to Álvarez Méndez (2002), as critical learning activity, a dynamic act that enables growth, learning and the student development towards transformation. The Reflective Diary, as a means to learning and teaching, allows us to better understand each student individually and the real progress of their knowledge; as consequence, it is a tool to be used so they can be consistently assisted and the course can be modeled according to its actual needs, allowing learning to be more meaningful. The Reflective Diary has acquired new objectives and features such as making the learning of a foreign language easier considering the writing skill and the reading proficiency.
