Abstract

Brazil “opens its arms” to refugees. Immigrants and Brazilians can be almost the same in Rio de Janeiro. Some authors present the Brazilian Portuguese as a welcome language, but the institutions responsible for offering Portuguese courses to refugees have been dealing with big challenges related to the best practices when it comes to teaching strategies. Based on the Discourse Analysis´ perspective we consider thinking about this foreigner regarding the learning process of the new language in relation to the practices developed up to the present time, drawing on Cáritas RJ educational proposal, media discourses, refugees immigrants essays and statements.
