Abstract

Early Bilingualism influences Child Development, but not in a simple and unilateral way. For the purpose of this article, research works on the subject were subdivided into three groups, according to the performances of monolinguals and bilinguals. One group points to advantages concerning anticipation in specific aspects of the cognitive development, such as inhibitory control and metalinguistic awareness. The second group points to differences in specific aspects, such as codeswitching. The third group points to disadvantages that are related to the context of the Bilingualism, the valorization of the languages, and the proficiency of the subject, but not to the Bilingualism per se.
