Abstract

In this article I present an analysis of the Latin American governments defined as “populist”by examining the possibility of harmonizing their policies with the practical proposals andtheories of the Indigenous Movement. In principle I accept the classification of “populist” in abasically positive form because it connects these governments with a native Latin Americandemocratic tradition and with the current possibility of its deepening. I also analyze someelements of this tradition and its recent change in meaning.
