Abstract

The fact that much of the social base of the roofless movement consists of women gives riseto important questions, such as: Who are the roofless women? Are they workers? Are theymothers? Are they youths? Are they black? Why do so many women participate in the rooflessmovement? How do they view the struggle for housing and their participation in these movements? We discuss some of these questions, using an analysis of social relations of class andgender to understand the Brazilian roofless movement.
