Abstract

This article opens a debate with Anderson’s theses
on “western Marxism,” identifying their limits and problems, and proposing an alternative thesis. It argues that the Marxism that developed in the English- speaking world was strongly influenced by the absence of popular movements that identify themselves as Marxist, particularly in the United States and Great Britain, and that Marxism was “nationalized” and “regionalized,” a development that was fed by the contributions of “western Marxism.”
