Abstract

brief text by Luise Michel, one of the principlecombatants of the Paris Commune. Because of herconvictions about the workers’ cause, she becameknown as the red virgin; an ardent defender ofsecular education, she also struggled for thearmed participation of women in the revolutionaryprocess. She was convicted and deported toNew Caledonia, where she remained for eightyears until she was amnisitied with the rest ofthe Communards. In what follows, we present apassage from her Memoires.
