Abstract

From the 1870s, some projects covering the possibility of alternative political organization in Brazil have being designed. They faced the challenge of thinking about a practicable nation with a crossbred population an a local adverse weather. Different from the solutions that considered Brazil as a unit, a proposal appeared facing the problem by "extirpating" these "obstacles". The 1887s "paulista" separatist movement was this answer. Its ideologists proposed the construction of a "pátria paulista", the subject of analysis of this article.
