Abstract

The Military Dictatorship (1964-1985) played a fundamental historical role in the currenthegemony of monopoly capital over Brazilian society. That role was to interrupt the anti-authoritarianmovement set in motion by the working classes and their political organizations atthe beginning of the 60s and to restore the bourgeois autocracy on updated foundations thatwere appropriate for associated-dependent monopoly capital. As a result, 29 years after theend of the generals’ regime, the class dictatorship of big capital persists, unfolding itself anddeveloping based on the legacy left by the Military Dictatorship.
