Abstract

The social liberalism of the Lula governments exercised a policy of exceptional concertation and conciliation: it adopted a targeted and assistentialist social policy, leaving aside the organizing working class; at the same time, it expanded the space of big international capital in Brazil, encouraged the trans-nationalization of key sectors of the native bourgeoisie, such as construction, composed by contractors, one of the most corrupt fractions of big capital in the country. These are central ingredients to understand the profound political crisis that is eroding the governments of PT.
