Abstract

This article examines the antagonisms in the rural world of Haiti. On the one hand, the government and businesses attempt to integrate territories in the world market economy based on extractivist “development” projects in the agricultural, mining and energy sectors. On the other hand, peasants try to resist this new offensive and defend lifestyles in which autonomy and food sovereignty are central pillars.
