Departing from the observation that the current resurgence of conservatism is not an accident, but rather is intrinsically related to the structural limits that face the advance of democracy in a capitalist system of colonial origins, this article presents evidence for understanding how the Workers’ Party (PT) reiterated the longstanding difficulty of the Brazilian left to understand those limits and, consequently, to organize the working masses for autonomous political action, betting, in different ways, on conciliation with the “national bourgeoisie” as a way to solve the country’s most serious problems.Downloads
