National Bourgeoisie and Internal Bourgeoisie: Elements for an Analysis of the Current Phase of Imperialism

Abstract

In this article, I discuss Nicos Poulantzas’ contributions to the development of the theory of imperialism, especially with regard to: 1) the political and ideological determinations of this new stage of capitalism; 2) the phases of imperialism; 3) the relationships between imperialism and national questions. Taking into consideration those contributions, I analyze the concept of internal bourgeoisie. Finally, based on a preliminary comparison of the Chinese and Brazilian processes, I present some theoretical and historical hypotheses on the national bourgeoisie.
