Sociology, Anthropology and race in Clóvis Moura

Abstract

This article seeks to understand the methodological and analytical procedure involved in criticizing the notion of race in the work of Clóvis Moura. To this end, we outline how the author understands the historical formation of Sociology through his birth trauma, that is, his historical particularity, the bourgeois revolutions and how his logic influenced the formation of anthropology. Anthropology is distinguished from sociology by its birth trauma, colonialism, which required the construction of the concept of race, with metaphysical and non-sociological roots, to produce its immobilist foundation. Thus, by criticizing the way in which this concept is formed and operates within Anthropology, it is possible to understand its true content, the effervescent social dynamics that hide beneath the immobilizing conceptualization.
