Ideological State Apparatus and Violence: The particular case of old lepers

Abstract

The State is an extra-economic power as a keen agent that guarantees the private property of means of production and an element whose political functions are arranged to the economics as well. The State acts like an operative instrument of the capitalist economy organization. The violence becomes an instrument for economic purposes. The State is expanded by an administrative machine and is fortified by militarization. As an example of administrative both a violent issue machine and ideological appliance of State come true when Brazilian government deals with lepers during the Vargas Era, as a measure of public health: old leper colonies working for exclusion and responding to obsolete prophylaxis.
