The article captures the backwoods category from the photographic reports produced by Pierre Verger with his Rolleiflex, between 1940 and 1950 for the magazine O Cruzeiro. Retrieves the dialogue established at the time that Verger with researchers who sought to reflect on the Northeast, as Alfred Métroux, Roger Bastide or Ben Zimmermam, focusing the analysis on the Verger’s trip to the region of Canudos in 1946. His photos have documented reports of Odorico Tavares about Euclides da Cunha; about Redoubt of Antonio Conselheiro; about Sobreviventes; and about Monte Santo. As acts of affection, his photographs were seeking to merge with the country culture, moving into other crevices of memory – remains vigorous marked, indelibly, and those surviving remnants of Canudos war.Downloads
