Abstract

Joaquim Pintassilgo, a researcher who has contributed to the consolidation of Portuguese-Brazilian cooperation in the area of History of Education, has identified a true grammar of this field in his academic trajectory, contributing not only to the mutual appropriation of various forms of educational knowledge, but also to the strengthening of a critical reflection on the role of education in the construction of a democratic and plural society. In this interview conducted in January 2025, in his office at Ulisboa, he invites young future teachers to invest in education for its transformative and democratic capacity. Expressed in the historical concreteness of his experience, in the contrast between the gray hair of a master of the trade and the youthful look, in the vitality of his beliefs and in his extensive historical knowledge with deep reflections, he refers us to the ontological need to hope for Education as an existential and historical imperative.
