Abstract

The article aims to present excerpts from the history of the group Secos & Molhados in the years 1973-1974: its importance for Brazilian Popular Music in dialogue with Liberation Theology, which was taking its first steps. Following the documentary bibliographic method, based on the reflection of the lyrics of some Secos & Molhados songs. The results achieved show the strength of the two albums today 50 years later and also the effectiveness of Liberation Theology as parallel paths towards breaking a false morality that has returned with force in the times in which we live. The origin and end of Secos & Molhados; the origin and continuation of Liberation Theology, in the context of military dictatorships spread throughout Latin America and the Caribbean seek to offer an analysis of an example of poetry and literature produced in Brazilian Popular Music and Liberation Theology. The novelty of Secos & Molhados and Liberation Theology is that through Liberating Art the message of freedom and hope continues strong and vibrant, and therefore useful and necessary. Recovering these fifty-year-old albums in dialogue with Liberation Theology is to make the Church go forth.
