Abstract
This paper presents an ESP experience which dealt with the speaking ability of state school teachers of English in São Paulo. We have taken into account genres that were selected based on the teachers’ spoken needs in the classroom as well as in their development process. We also share our reflection upon the course design from our perspective as designers as well as from the participants’ perspective concerning the use of spoken English in the classroom and the applicability of the knowledge shared during the course to their practice.
