Abstract

This article focuses on analyzing the discourse and the actions of the character Polonius in The tragedy of Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, in order to articulate Updike’s vision of the counselor’s personality in the novel Gertrude and Claudius. Based on this analysis, it aims to describe the traits of the character that may contribute to a discussion about contemporary behavior.

Thiago Martins Prado, UNEB

É doutor em Letras pela UFBA (2011), possui mestrado em Letras pela UFBA (2005) e graduou-se em Letras Vernáculas (licenciatura e bacharelado) pela mesma universidade (2002). Tem experiência na área de Letras e atua lecionando Teoria da Literatura, Literatura Dramática, Literatura Brasileira e Língua Portuguesa para faculdades e Gramática Tradicional e Práticas de Escrita para cursos e treinamentos. Como poeta, autor de A inutilidade das (p)arcas (FUNCEB, 2002) e de A reutilização das pedras (Editora UFS, 2010); como estudioso da Literatura, autor de Utopia política, vanguarda e ritual (Editora UFS, 2008) e de Deus morto, Deus posto (Editora UFS, 2014).
