Abstract

This work presents some of Bakhtin and the Circle’s contributions to the definition and reading of the verbal visual language, placing these contributions on the concept of the word. For this purpose, the word manioc was chosen, recovered in three moments: the transition from oral to writing in Couto de Magalhães’ text, dated of 1876; the text’s French version published in France in 1923; and in a contemporary recipe book first released in 2005 and with a second edition in 2006.
