Abstract

José Saramago's fiction is deliberately synchronic. Different time and space, in teleological process of discursive fusion, configure a continuous present. This procedure stands out in novels in which the religious discourse is manifestly problematized, The Gospel According to Jesus Christ and Cain. The approach focuses on the axiological and authorial field of the two titles, engendering a analytical-formal category - chronotope-author - by borrowing Baktin's concept, homologous to the history and literature dialogue undertaken in the object corpus.
