Abstract

This article discusses the film genre chanchada from a bakhtinian perspective about the configuration of discourse genres. The main hypothesis is that their main feature is their hybrid nature, due to the use of a range of filmic genres in their language and the multifaceted nature of Brazilian popular culture. The genre is responsible for the cristalization of the imaginary about the identity and social memory of popular social classes in Brazil.
