Notes on the Elements that Constitute an Escrevivência [Writing-living]

Abstract

The concept of Escrevivência [Writing-living] was first used in 1996 by Conceição Evaristo. From that moment on, there has been an effort to systematize said concept, both by Evaristo and by other researchers. In this paper, we join these researchers, seeking to find some of the key aspects in cultural products considered to be Escrevivências. To this end, we draw on the reflections of Conceição Evaristo and relate them to the thoughts of other black people, such as bell hooks and Grada Kilomba. We also make use of the French Semiotics to support thoughts and brief analyses of texts such as Maria Felipa, cordel literature written by Jarid Arraes. The research has allowed us to point out the following as key or recurring aspects in Escrevivências: black authorship, (re)creation through fiction, black characters taking on the roles of subjects, an internal point of view, and an ideological consonance.
