Abstract

In “The Origin of the Work of Art”, Heidegger reflects deeply on how we can approach art. In his reasoning, he dismisses the theory understood as a collection of statements that claim to define the properties and characteristics of objects. To talk about art, we need to put aside all the theory about it and delve into the very horizon of the artist’s work to seek its truth, without searching about the artist’s workshop. The work is, the work stands, the work exists. The more it is left to itself in its loneliness, the more it stands out as shocking, as disquieting, as unusual. Hence the big question that underlies Heidegger’s general discourse about art: to approach a work of art are we supposed to gather as much information as possible about it or should we penetrate its truth, as Heidegger proposes?
