The present study is an excerpt of a Master's dissertation addressing the study of self-publishing platforms in the Internet. In this article, we present the findings of the research focused on Beth Reekle’s bestseller The Kissing Booth, self-published on the Wattpad platform. The theoretical framework of the research is based on the field of Cultural Studies, especially the studies developed by Paul Du Gay and Stuart Hall (1997a). One of the main conclusions of this research is that self-publication platforms are in tune with the logic of disintermediation and reintermediation, thus modifying the dynamics in the culture of printed books, producing new practices of production, consumption, and changing identities traditionally associated with these practices.
