Trip’s new abstractions

The present essay evaluates the reinvention of the journey topos in Rasos d’água (2003), by Astrid Cabral. For that end, the argument will be divided into three parts: at first, a longer analysis of the chosen texts will be done so as to show: a) the predominance of the standard subjectivism of modern poetry; b) the mixed aspects of other literary genders; c) a discussion of the literary references selected for the composition; by the end, a short review will be carried out in order to situate the book in the history of poetry. Astrid Cabral’s poems can be viewed as an emblem of persistent questions in Brazilian poetry, which – frequently against tradition– acts by updating and rearranging the way poets look at it.
