The crisis in literature is mentioned as a result of the contemporary historical-social context, within which literature, mainly literary literature, would not be a practice capable of competing with the various forms of audiovisual communication. This paper submits a proposal for discussing such an issue, trying to identify the role played by the school in the spread of literature. Therefore, it takes into account features inherently belonging to the subject, such as the social-economic conditions faced by teachers, the professional background development provided by literature courses and, mainly, literature as a subject meant for teaching. It takes into account the hypothesis proposing that the problems concerning literature teaching are common to the very background development and that literature may be a privileged field to point to new perspectives for education in general.Downloads
