Being a mother and journalist in Brazil
a social and autoethnographic analysis

This article proposes a reflection on the challenges faced by mothers and journalists in Brazil, from an autoethnographic perspective, defended by authors such as Amanda Coffey. As a mother and journalist, the author of the article gives examples of the difficulties faced in her daily professional life. The study is also supported by data from entities such as the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and the Brazilian Association of Investigative Journalism (Abraji) that illustrate the country's gender disparity in the job market, a situation worsened during the Covid-19 pandemic. The data is interpreted with the help of researchers who study the topic, such as Nobel Prize winner Claudia Goldin. A historiographical dimension is also proposed, recalling stories of women from the past, involved in journalism, who suffered from prejudice and lack of support, such as Prisciliana Duarte de Almeida and Gilka Machado.
