Abstract

The history of great scientists was marked by the event of the bubonic plague, a great sudden obstacle in a period of intense scientific development. We are currently facing the pandemic of the new coronavirus, which has revolutionized the way we work and do research, making it possible for us to produce in isolation and remote. From this context, this article brings together historical passages about another period of isolation and silent contemplation within a model of doing science in times of crisis, the case of the mathematician, astronomer, and physicist Galileo Galilei (1564 - 1642). His discoveries occurred during the confrontation of the bubonic plague, with a strong epidemic that affected Florence (Italy) between the years 1630 and 1633, a period that represents the most important and turbulent years of Galileo's life.
