Abstract

Abstract

This paper presents the research and production process of a set of materials developed through a detailed analysis of the historical episode ‘Electromagnetic Induction Experiment’ carried out in 1831 by the English scientist Michael Faraday, in particular the construction of replicas of the ring-coil, galvanometer, and trough battery apparatus, which were handcrafted based on texts and images from the scientist’s original works. Aligned with some assumptions about the ways of using the Historical-Investigative approach, we sought to depict the construction process similar to what would have been experienced by Faraday himself, encompassing the main stages involved and the challenges faced, contextualizing the experiment itself, the apparatus elaborated by him, and the scientific instruments used at the time. The search for relevant and consistent information was guided by the use of reliable primary and secondary sources, accessible and supported by renowned institutions. The fabrication of the apparatus, considering the perspective of Replication of Historical Scientific Apparatus and Experiments, enables a historical-scientific immersion about doing science and its consequent implication in the construction of scientific knowledge, with didactic potential to foster students' critical and creative sense.
