Abstract

Starting from a review of the history of the use of comic books for science teaching, a recent example of their employment in the dissemination and didactics of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) in Coimbra is presented. Emphasis is also given to how this format can be used to highlight the way science is organized. Focused on an international NMR congress in Coimbra in 1968, the cartoons aim to show that this congress was fundamental in the history of NMR spectroscopy in Portugal, highlighting the role of some of its actors, the importance of accurate sources, detailed research processes, and the communication of complex concepts in an accessible way.
