Abstract

The present paper is located between bioethical discussions and Paulo Freire´s theoretical construction. In this
context, it aimed to analyze the approximations between the thoughts of the Brazilian educational patron and three
other texts of the bioethical field. The texts were chosen based on their importance for the ethical debate and on their
date of creation. Thus, one of them is dated before, the other during, and the third after Freire´s theoretical
production. This research was done considering the centrality of ethics in Freire´s philosophy and the need for a
historical understanding of the development of bioethics. To this end, a content analysis was performed, divided into
the following steps: choice and organization of texts, word frequency analysis using the IRAMUTEQ software,
treatment of the results based on the research theme, classification of the words found, and analysis and discussion
of the results. Thus, 24 words were presented, which were grouped into 5 classes defined based on their common
meanings. In this way, by understanding the changes in the debate on bioethics in history, the influence of the
historical time of each text on its contents was verified, bringing them closer or not to Freire´s writings. Furthermore,
the Freirean contribution to a broad interdisciplinary ethical debate was concluded.
