Abstract

This essay is a brief introduction to Soviet cinema during the process of the October Revolution, the confluence of some esthetic movements that marked the origins of Russian cinematographic thought. In particular it explores the influence and subsequent persecution of three figures who had a strong influence during this period: Vladimir Maiakovski, Vsevolod Meyerhold and Serguei Tretiakov. It also deals with some aspects of the role of futurism and the Formalist School for the constructivism of the Leftist Front of the Arts, which would be one of the unifying poles in the initial steps of the explosion of Soviet revolutionary cinema.
